Ear Infections

Ear infections are also known as Otitis Media (a middle ear infection). Otitis Media is any inflammation of the middle ear. The most common childhood illness treated by pediatricians are ear infections.

Common Treatments:
Antibiotics: Antibiotics are useful for infections caused by bacteria. However, over 90% of ear infections are viral. When ear infections are viral, antibiotics becomes useless. They only work when bacteria is present.
Ear Tubes: Ear tubes are inserted through a surgical procedure. Using anesthesia, an incision (small hole) in the eardrum or tympanic membrane is made. An artificial tube is placed within the ear canal.

Chiropractic Care: Chiropractic care helps to reduce stress and tension on the nervous system and restore normal function. The nerves that regulate, control, and supply the ear start at the brainstem, travel down the spinal cord, and exit out between two vertebrae in the neck. Misalignments of the vertebrae of the neck may compromise the function of the nerve function. When there is stress and tension on the nerve supplying the ear, this may affect the child’s ability to fight off infection and impair drainage. We do not treat ear infections. At Family Roots Chiropractic we check to see if there is stress and tension on the nervous system. If the vertebrae are misaligned causing nerve disturbance we use a chiropractic adjustment to reduce it.
